Thurstaston
village lies on the A540 between Heswall and Caldy, although
it stretches some distance down Station Road to the bank of
the Dee estuary where there is a large caravan park.
Thurstaston common or hill is a popular place for walkers and
more recently cyclists seeking the thrills of the hills. With
a panoramic view across the Wirral its a stunning place to
just sit and relax. With views of Liverpool in one direction
and the mountains of Wales in the other and on a clear day the
Lancashire hills can be seen.
It is notable for the large areas of
parkland that are associated with it,
Thurstaston
Common and Wirral Country Park. The administrative and visitor
centre of the Country Park is situated in a disused station area
near the caravan park and the old railway line has been
converted into a public path - the Wirral Way. The Centre
contains displays relevant to the local ecology and is open to
all.
